Program Information
The DMS to B.S. is an online program designed for registered diagnostic medical sonographers who wish to earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in radiation sciences by distance education.
After admission to the Carver College of Medicine, Radiation Sciences, DMS to BS, students choose online modality courses in: cardiac, pediatric, pediatric cardiac, fetal cardiac, vascular, abdominal, obstetrics & gynecology, and/or breast sonography.

- HHP:3550 Human Physiology with Lab
- PHYS:1400 Basic Physics or PHYS:1511 College Physics
- Psychology: PSY:1001 Elementary Psychology
- Quantitative/Formal Reasoning:
- MATH:1020 Elementary Functions (precalculus)
- General Education: 3sh from 2 of the following areas:
- Understanding Cultural Perspectives (UCP)
- Historical Perspectives (HP)
- International and Global Issues (IGI)
- Literary, Visual, and Performing Arts (LVPA)
- Values and Society (VS)
- Medical Terminology: CLSA:3750 Medical and Technical Terminology
- 2.5 minimum cumulative college GPA in non-RT, RTT, or NMT college courses
- Completion of a Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, or Nuclear Medicine Technology program
- ARRT radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, or NMTCB nuclear medicine certification
- 60 semester hours awarded for radiography; 45 semester hours for radiation therapy or nuclear medicine
- All admission requirements must be completed or in progress prior to admission
- Apply to the undergraduate College of Medicine Radiation Sciences major.
- International students and students whose first language is not English: satisfaction of all UI Admissions requirements; completion of the English Language Requirements for Admission, the English Proficiency Evaluation, and all proficiency courses required for clearance to take a full academic load

Degree Requirements
1) Choose courses from any of the following online sonography specializations:

2) Semester hour, GPA, and Residency Requirements:
- Successfully complete a minimum of 120 semester hours
- Maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative and UI GPA
- Complete all modality courses with a C or above
- complete a minimum of 30 consecutive sh in the College of Medicine

Admission Notes
Admission Notes
In order to be admitted to the radiation sciences major, students must:
- Pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) sonography (S) or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) board certification exam for medical or cardiac sonographers.
- Complete all prerequisite courses.
- Students may count approved transfer credit toward the required prerequisites; learn more by visiting Transfer Courses in MyUI or Transfer Credit page.
- Earn a GPA of at least 2.50, not including DMS or DCS program courses.
- Apply to the Carver College of Medicine early; allow processing time.
- Follow Admissions Profile instructions on MyUI.
- Send all official college transcripts to the UI Office of Admissions.
- Complete mandatory orientation modules and advising appointments.
- Students choose coursework in any of the online concentrations: cardiac, pediatric, pediatric cardiac, fetal cardiac, vascular, abdominal, obstetrics & gynecology, and/or breast sonography. This program of study does not require a practicum.
