To understand and gain valuable insight into radiation sciences careers, students are strongly encouraged to job shadow radiation sciences professionals. Document the facility, contact person, hours, and activities.
Job shadows at University of Iowa (UI) Health Care are available only to students that:
- Are at least 18 years of age
- Have applied, or are planning to apply, to the UI Radiation Sciences Programs
- Are free of communicable diseases
Job Shadowing
Requesting a Job Shadow
Job shadows are provided upon request. We cannot guarantee availability of job shadow visits. There are limited available slots which fill quickly so it is highly recommended you schedule a visit early in the fall semester. Shadows may be scheduled during the following weeks of each semester.
- Fall semester: During the academic session, except finals week (mid-December).
- Spring semester: After spring break (mid-March) until the end of the semester.
- Summer semester: June 1 through July 31.

Main message: Include name, address, phone number, age, level of education (high school or college), and several dates that you can attend.

Job Shadow Requirements
Completion and submission of all forms attached to the confirmation email you will receive upon scheduling including:
- Communicable Disease Screening form
- Patient Confidentiality form
- Dress Code adherence form
- Adherence to the UI Health Care Professional Appearance Policy and dress code requirements
- Demonstrating respectful behavior with patients and others at all time
*There are no exceptions to these requirements. Failure to meet any of the above requirements will result in a cancellation of the job shadow.
Directions & Lodging
Park in any available Hospital Ramp located near the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center.
Directions to the job shadowing check-in location will be provided in the scheduling confirmation email.
