To understand and gain valuable insight into radiation sciences careers, students are strongly encouraged to job shadow all radiation sciences modalities of interest. In preparation for the program application, document the facility, contact person, hours, and activities. Program/modality-specific job shadowing experience will be considered as part of the admission process.

Job shadows at University of Iowa (UI) Health Care are available only to students that:

  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Have applied, or are planning to apply, to the UI Radiation Sciences Programs
  • Are free of communicable diseases

Requesting a Job Shadow

Job shadows are provided upon request.  We cannot guarantee availability of job shadow visits. There are limited available slots which fill quickly so it is highly recommended you schedule a visit early in the fall semester.  Shadows may be scheduled during the following weeks of each semester.

Fall: September 1 - early December
Spring: February 1 - early May
Summer: June 1 - August 1

Job Shadow Requirements

There are no exceptions to the following requirements. Failure to meet any of the outlined requirements will result in a cancellation of the job shadow. 

  • Completion of the job shadow visitor agreement upon check-in
  • Adherence to the UI Health Care Dress Code & Professional Appearance requirements
  • Demonstrating respectful behavior with patients and others at all times

Directions & Lodging

Park in any available Hospital Ramp located near the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center.
