The radiation therapy program consists of two track options - Greater Iowa City Area Only track and Senior Year Outside Affiliated Site track.

All students attend didactic courses on campus in Iowa City during the junior year and online during the senior year. All students complete their first fall and spring clinical internships in the Greater Iowa City Area. Students accepted into the Senior Year Outside Affiliated Site Track are assigned, by the program, to complete the summer semester and senior year clinical internships at an approved affiliated clinical site outside of the Iowa City area. Students accepted into the Greater Iowa City Area Only Track will continue their clinical internships in the greater Iowa City area. See Clinical Internships.

Students typically apply to this two-year program during their second year and begin the program in the fall of their junior year. Students may apply to one or both track options. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply for the national certification examination in Radiation Therapy administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Note: Students accepted into the Radiation Therapy Program will gain clinical experience with MRI units during their training. Before beginning clinical practicum, all students must complete MRI safety training and an MRI screening form. Students with implants that are not MRI‑compatible will be provided with alternative rotations. If you have questions or concerns about your eligibility to participate in MRI rotations, please contact the Program Director.
